I saw this image the other day via an Instagram post from Courtney Carver and the words really struck me.
The words come from social justice archivist, Sierra King whose work you can find out more about here.
I’d never thought about my favourite self before.
My highest self, yes. My future self, yes - both of which I’ve incorporated as concepts into guided meditations I’ve shared over the years in my capacity as a teacher.
But…
My favourite self? Who is she? I’ve been thinking about it ever since.
It’s been a heavy time.
One thing I do know for sure is that my favourite self is joyful.
I know that I come from people who have continued to find joy in the face of extreme adversity.
I know that there are people in this ‘tolerant’ country who don’t believe in my right to joy.
When I remember these things I endeavour to seek out joy - on my own terms, unapologetically - for myself and for my ancestors.
I claim this part of my favourite self.
So, I ask you:
Who is your favourite self?
How do you / how can you connect with your favourite self?
You may wish to journal on these questions.
Or - if you feel called to - share in the comments below.
