Thanks so much Yvonne πŸ™πŸΎπŸ’œπŸ’œ And I wholeheartedly agree! While there are positives to social media, too much is detrimental. Less is definitely more.

I got as far as downloading it and it asked me to pay so I abandoned it. I have enough Threads in my life without adding a new one. Social media seems to be a necessary evil atm. As a mindfulness teacher I know how amazing it is to be without it - my brain loves it when I take a break. But I also keep in touch with friends & family (I live in Finland and come from Australia) and run my new business too and kind of need it to build that. As Rebecca said above, the last thing I need is another platform πŸ˜…

It asked you to pay for Threads?! I understand what you mean about social media feeling like it’s a necessary evil. I do find it useful for spreading the word about my yoga offerings, but if it wasn’t for that I don’t know if I’d be on there at all. I do see how it must be really helpful for staying in touch with friends and family overseas too. But yes, the thought of another social media platform feels a step too far. Thanks Lisa! πŸ™πŸΎβœ¨

Yes, it asked me to pay €3 per week. I was wondering why people were signing up and paying - must be just me πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Thanks!

How strange! I didn’t realise they were asking people to pay to be on there.

I’m totally with you Paula. I signed up out of curiosity as one of my hats is marketing strategist and business owner. I think I popped on for the first day or two but as you say the last thing I need is yet another platform.

Thanks Rebecca πŸ™πŸΎβœ¨ With your marketing strategist hat on what did you make of Threads? I never got as far as downloading it. Fair play to anyone who’s really enjoying It but I don’t think it’s for me.

I think it’s really just Twitter with kinder people. From a marketing strategy perspective I think it’s fragmenting peoples attention even further. It’s interesting why Meta would introduce a platform that does this and potentially cannibalises their other platforms. People only have so much time.

Thanks for sharing that, Rebecca. Indeed, people only have so much time.

I totally agree with the feeling of "oh, not another one"! I think we all could benefit from JOMO instead (joy of missing out) and appreciate everything the world has to offer outside of social media. The joy of listening to birds, reading about something fascinating or creating a flavorful meal with love. I've found myself feeling so much more connected with people, all types of living creatures and growing plants around me when I'm off social media. To me, this is a much more rewarding, fun and loving way to live life πŸ’š

I completely agree, Julia! Yes to more JOMO πŸ’š Thanks so much for being here πŸ™πŸΎβœ¨

+1 to all of this. I am not on Threads nor Instagram, Twitter and any other ones I’ve missed since I moved under a rock.

Too much noise you hit the nail on the head. Will be cheering folks on from afar.

Louder for the back row Paula!! With you 200% but I know FOR SURE that I'm not ever going to download Threads! :) Social media can become deeply unhealthy from the amount of time scrolling and as you rightly say, taking us away from space and rest, and the "comparison/leading awesome lives" window that can be draining. I think social media is a great tool, it works as have only promoted my offerings in IG no where else and folks do come practice!

I'm too noticing a slower pace and not rushing to read the next email that drops in the box, think there's an overwhelm of "see this, know this, hear me" so I ensure I choose what works for me. I agree it's been fascinating to watch folks sign up, feeling a little smug that am not remotely interested and happy to say so, will stick with IG. Twitter account shut down years ago, Tik who?!:) and Clubhouse joined for a few months and then found didn't resonate and stuck with IG, that's plenty for me! LOVING your Substack offering Paula, long may it feed your soulπŸ’œπŸ’œ
