“… Perimenopause – the time leading up to menopause – is significant because as oestrogen depletes, many of the symptoms associated with menopause arise. You might sail through this transition with ease or you might, as is more common, experience some symptoms.”
– from Rest + Calm: Gentle yoga and mindful practices to nurture and restore yourself
October is Menopause Awareness Month and Wednesday 18th October is World Menopause Day.
To mark this, I’m sharing a bonus post with this class I recorded back in 2020.
Are you in a stage of menopause and experiencing any (or all) of the following?
Hot flushes
Night sweats
Anger (“Meno-rage”)
Aggression
Irritability
Fear
This Cooling Excess Heat class may be of some help. (It’s a longer version of the 10 minute mini-practice that can be found on my YouTube.)
Why do I care?
I’m very much in perimenopause right now (I wrote a bit about that earlier this year here) so I’m sharing this for anyone who is there too (or in any stage of menopause) who might find it helpful.
If this doesn’t apply to you personally, but is relevant to someone in your life please do share this post with them.
Stress matters
Stress exacerbates every menopause symptom. For our wellbeing and to support ourselves through perimenopause and beyond, making space for rest takes on even greater importance.
The quote at the top of this post is from *my book, where you’ll find lots of restorative yoga practices – including one specifically for perimenopause and menopause – guidance and tips you can easily incorporate onto your day-to-day life to soothe your nervous system and combat the effects of stress.
(*US readers: you can find Rest + Calm here and at Barnes & Noble)
I’ve found and continue to find yoga especially beneficial in navigating my own perimenopause, and as a senior yoga teacher and accredited Menopause Yoga teacher I want to share these practices with others also going through this transition.
If you like this class, you might enjoy my regular classes and meditation practices that I share each month here on Substack: The Reset and A Peaceful Pause. If you’re currently a free subscriber, you can access all of the practices by upgrading here.
